Strangers on a train

When Julie missed her train to London by seconds one morning having pre-booked an advance single to save the pennies, she began to beat herself up; “I should know better with my ADHD brain and asthma but I thought I could do it.” She went to the information office, holding back the tears, and calmly […]

The kindness of Bulmershe School’s students

Bulmershe School tweeted how lucky they are to have such fantastic students who support them in our extra-curricular after some of the year 12s helped to run a primary school netball tournament. It’s wonderful to see kindness being celebrated in schools – what kindness have you seen from children recently?

A view from the canal bridge where Alexis did her mindfulness meditation; a canal covered in Lilly pads with lush green gras to the sides and trees beside the path that runs alongside the canal.

Mindfulness meditations as self kindness

How do you show yourself kindness in times of stress? For Alexis it’s mindfulness meditations during dog walks. She told me that standing on a bridge over the Tennant canal one Saturday between a long list of work and personal to-dos and doing a Buddhify meditation which focused just on the senses of the body

Sharing home grown food

”I arrived to play cards with a partner, family and friends, and had brought my own snacks. They asked why and my partner explained that I’m vegan. Without pause one of my partner’s friends held up a huge, homegrown courgette and asked if I’d like it. It was so kind and I said yes and

Sweet peas

I see your last Rolo and raise you the last sweet peas for a wedding! My sister-in-law was due to marry in March 2020, in the end getting married in August with severe limits on the number of people who could attend. But Tilda shared a beautiful story of kindness that came out of it.

ADHD friends

How do you help make life a little easier for your neurodivergent friends? The issues with object permanence that often come with ADHD can make remembering a lunchbox that’s in the fridge before you walk out the door very difficult – a bright pink sticker that says “lunch” right in your eye line on the

Screenshot of a LinkedIn post from Nikki Wrench reading “Supporting people to get new jobs in the sector is one of my favourite things to do! I’ve lost count now of the amount of people that I’ve had the pleasure of working with, helping them to build their CVs, practising interview skills and building their confidence around having conversations about salary! Every person that I’ve supported this year has got the job and it’s the best feeling in the world getting messages like this. They all have the potential to get the job without my help - all I’m doing is helping them to feel more prepared and therefore more confident. I’d highly recommend doing this - it’s a great way to volunteer your skills and bring more fantastic fundraisers into the charity sector.”

Furloughed fundraisers

Isn’t it amazing when even more good comes of a kindness. I featured Nikki’s fundraisers support group on Time for Kindness last year as she’d set up a support group for fundraisers who had been furloughed. Recently she posted over on LinkedIn about some huge successes she’d had while supporting other fundraisers to get new

Inclusive theatre at Reading Rep

Do you consider making art accessible a kindness? I certainly do and that’s why I love that Reading Rep‘s mission is to transform lives through theatre. They say “We aim to make our work as accessible as we can. One of the ways we do this is by offering 10% of our tickets for free to

Reading buses

Two kindnesses in one story thanks to Lorraine and a Reading waste management employee. An employee on the number 17 bus loaded down with bags of his own and in layers of hi-vis on a very humid day jumped to help an older lady by catching her bags before they fell to the ground. The

Pay it forward

How do you pay kindness forward? Emma told us how she paid it forward after a neighbour’s partner checked out and fixed the scratch on her car, she gave another neighbour Malteser chocolate tiffin- simply because they are great people. Paying forward kindness in small (and delicious) ways is a lovely way to make our
