Unexpected connection at the South Bank Centre café.

Sarah & Bernadette, two women with light skin tone, either side of a man with light skin tone and short white hair with a short beard. All are smiling broadly.

Bernadette Russell and I had arranged to meet up at the South Bank Centre café in London. When we arrived it was really busy, so we asked a man sitting at a table on his own if he would mind sharing.

Grant told us that he was passing a bit of time before meeting friends, because he’d got his dates muddled up about a meeting he thought he would be going to.

Bernadette offered to buy him and me a cup of tea and the 3 of us ended up having a really lovely conversation about all sorts of things, including kindness, volunteering and the opportunities for learning new things as you get older. It was a wonderful example of human connection and kindness between strangers!
