Resident helps stuck narrowboaters.

a narrowboat on a canal passing under a blue sky with people walking along the toe path on the right and a field on the left. The narrow boat is being driven by a woman wearing a Fran Kirby football shirt.

“My daughter and I were away with my Dad on his narrowboat. One day was particularly windy and as we slowed down to approach a swing bridge the boat was blown against the far side of the canal and grounded in the shallow water- we were stuck.

There was a lovely house by the canal and we were stuck right by their garden. I had to climb off the boat – and into their garden – to try to free our boat.

When the owner of the house appeared, I thought he might be cross but in fact he couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. He said it happened every time it was windy and he knew just where to push to free the boat.

Once we were on our way, I looked back to see another boat getting stuck in the same place and the house owner helping them, still with a big smile on his face. What a star!”

A star indeed! A big thank you to Caragh for sending this in – and yes that is a Fran Kirby shirt, one of Time for Kindness’ favourite football players so excellent clothing choices too!
