“I wanted to tell you about Kennie, the Lyft driver who went out of his way to make sure I got to visit the Big River Crossing in Memphis when I was on holiday there.
He made sure that I crossed the rather desolate-looking bridge to Arkansas in safety, by getting out of his car and coming with me on the walk.
Not only did I get the kick of achieving a small ambition which would have been difficult or risky without his help, but I also had the pleasure of exchanging tales of our very different lives and of looking at Memphis from the bridge not just through my eyes but also through his.
I was lucky enough to do a lot of travelling last year, and to see some amazing sights, but the memory of that relatively low-key afternoon is the one that keeps returning and it feels good every time.
By so kindly helping me, Kennie helped himself to have a new experience and resolved to get out of his car to walk and look more often.
Doing something kind can be rooted in making yourself feel good and that’s fine, because the other person benefits anyway.”
What a wonderful story of kindness, well done Kennie the Lyft driver for this kind act and thank you to Rachel for sharing this with us.
