#kindnessmatters

This collection of posts illustrates the difference that acts of kindness make to others’ lives. Your actions matter and these good news posts show you how.

Coffees for the team

Leading with kindness can be as simple as grabbing coffee for your team. At a team meeting at Chapter Arts Centre, Jeremy Linnell bought coffees for team members to keep them hydrated and save them some cash. How did you show your team or colleagues kindness this week?

I AM looking forward to delivering another climate action talk this afternoon (this time to the ITI Parent Network), but I'll also be very relieved when it's over! Trying to focus on how right it feels to be doing this. Alignment of my values and all that. Not to mention the importance of community and of having these conversations, especially on the back of completing my Carbon Literacy training with Jen Gale last week... But I just hope there's no "mind gone blank" moments and apologise in advance if that happens!”

Supporting colleagues

Supporting someone and cheering them on when they’re nervous is such a huge act of kindness, and one that Sea Change Multilingual experienced last week. As the nerves overtook the excitement before her talk on climate action she shared with her LinkedIn network how she was feeling and the response was overwhelming support. Friends and

Relax with art

I had so much fun at the Onome Otite online art class from #vamacademy last night 😍 I’m rather pleased with my textile and paper collage using Onome’s tiling technique. I wasn’t very good at following the instruction to keep your workspace tidy though – I ended up with messy piles of fabric and paper on my desk and

Kindness in comms

The comms community were amazing after the news of the Queen’s sad death broke. They reached out to help, support and guide each other during difficult times and Keith Riley was one of those wonderful people going above and beyond to help the community. Being a communications professional is hard and can be draining at

Kind businesses: Elementary Skin and Body

I love discovering kind businesses so when Jo told me about Elementary Skin and Body I had to share! Over on LinkedIn when I asked about kind business, Jo said “I’d love to nominate the amazing Elementary Skin and Body – owned by lovely Lucie, one of the kindest folk I’ve ever had the good fortune to

A kindness interview with the Mayor of Reading

I recently had the opportunity to talk to my friend and colleague, Rachel Eden, about kindness in public service. Rachel has been an elected member of Reading Borough Council since 2010, has stood as a parliamentary candidate in 2 General Elections and is the current Mayor of Reading. She also runs her own finance and

What if… people involved in politics are kind?

This month’s guest blog comes from Malcolm Powers, who shares his experiences of kindness in politics. The dominant narrative we have about politics right now, especially on a national level in the UK, is not about kindness, so I’m delighted to read a different perspective. I’m Labour and you’re Conservative so we hate each other.

Workplace mental health

Would your workplace benefit from more kindness and mental health support? Lucy Whitehall shared a wonderful story of how mental health and kindness collided at work for her; “This week I’ve had a few personal recommendations for me to deliver #MentalHealthAtWork and #Resilience events. Thank you sincerely to those clients and delegates who have found

Mayoral kindness from Rachel Eden

Do you get involved in local politics? Mayor Rachel Eden told me “One of my duties as Mayor is to chair the full Council meetings. I try to do this with kindness, making sure that everyone has chance to share their thoughts and they are respectful in the way they share and respond. If members

What if… we allow our best selves to shine through?

This month’s guest blogger is environmental leadership coach, Kath Allen, who shares some tips for ensuring we show ourselves kindness, as a basis for kindness to others. I am an environmental leadership coach and I believe that self-care is an act of environmental activism. When we take exceptional care of ourselves and attend to our
