Use your skills or learn new ones through volunteering.

Five people stand in amongst lots of flax tied together and stood on end in a field. The volunteers are only visible from the upper chest up and are waving.

“It’s my way of giving something back to the school my girls went to!” says Adeeba Hussain who is the Chair of Governors at the school her (now grown-up) children attended and a serial volunteer.

Governors are responsible for overseeing the management side of a school: strategy, policy, budgeting and staffing. They enable their school to run as effectively as possible, working alongside senior leaders and supporting teachers to provide excellent education to children.

Adeeba’s skills and experience from her career in marketing and communications for a variety of corporate and public sector organisations come in very handy!

She makes a habit of volunteering though and last summer took part in Home Grown Home Spun, a regenerative project to grow flax and turn it into linen for jeans.

Whether you’re using skills you already have to volunteer or learning new ones, there are so many different ways to get involved – are you inspired yet?
