Preschool saved by community volunteers.

a view across a play area with swings and a wendy house to a brick preschool building with blue doors and windows.

“Our local preschool was at risk of shutting down unless they could find five trustees to serve on the committee. These unpaid volunteers were essential, and no one wanted to see our beloved village preschool close its doors.

Although I’ve been juggling a lot of responsibilities and feeling stretched thin, I nervously attended the AGM, ready to help but aware of my limits. To my relief, I wasn’t alone. Ten members of the community showed up, eager to volunteer. The existing committee was incredibly supportive, and when the current chair—who had just taken on a full-time job—had to step down, someone immediately stepped in without hesitation.

I was made to feel welcome and wasn’t pressured to take on more than I could handle. I committed to providing input around decision and making cake for fundraising events.

I left with deep respect for the trustees and the team that keep our preschool running. It was nice to see so many people step forward. I left feeling more connected to the community we’ve recently moved into.”

So much kindness on show here, we love to see it! There’s even more kindness in these stories:
