Transporter tows stuck car out of layby.

a layby with some vehicles parked in it.

“Having spent a pleasant month in Cyprus I flew back to England and a very cold, wet, windy November evening. My spirits rose as I approached arrivals and spotted my mum, Monica, who had kindly offered to pick me up. Once in the warm car I was further cheered by the promise of chili with jacket potatoes, already heating in the oven.

We were disorientated by an unexpected diversion, and my mum had to pull over and reset the Sat-Nav. The layby was pitch black. There was a horrible crunching sound, and we found ourselves mounted on a raised kerb surrounded by a large body of water. I got out and pushed in vain. We were stuck. We had no alternative but to call the RAC and I prepared myself for a long wait. We were then told, unbeknown to my mum, that her membership had in fact expired in August. We were well and truly stranded.

The layby became illuminated as a car transporter flashing with lights pulled up in front of us. My mum approached the driver to see if they could help us. The driver left his sandwiches, leapt out of the cab, and into action. He located the hook on the car’s front bumper and produced a heavy-duty tow rope which he attached to his lorry. The transporter’s engine revved up, the rope tightened, and the car was pulled free from the kerb. As the driver checked the car was safe to drive, I insisted we pay him something, but he merely shook his head, smiled, and walked away.

Monica and I would like to say a big thank you to the nameless driver for their random act of kindness.

What a superhero!”

We couldn’t agree more and a big thank you to Gavin who allowed us to share this despite it being meant for Sara Cox over at Radio 2! Another act of kindness!
