Jayden, 16, barely looked up when she challenged him to UNO. But by round three, he laughed. Later, staff said he’d started writing poems in the notebook she gave him. One read, “Some strangers don’t leave. They come back.”
Then there was Salma, 15, quiet and wary. She once told Sara, “People leave presents, then leave.” Sara promised she’d return and did. Salma handed her a note: “Thanks for treating us like people.”
