Stranger pays for coffee at John Lewis café after customer discovers her purse was stolen.

A cup of coffee on a wooden table with a blurred out coffee shop behind it. Text overlaid reads “Stranger pays for coffee at John Lewis café after customer discovers her purse was stolen.”

“My 83 year old mother had her purse stolen out of her rucksack in John Lewis in Reading. Unwittingly, she then wanted to enjoy a coffee and a scone in their café as she often does on her shopping trips.

On paying she rummaged through her handbag and couldn‘t find her purse. Sweat and panic broke out and she told the cashier that her purse must have been stolen as the queue behind her grew and grew.

My mother was very surprised when a lovely lady in the queue behind her shouted out “Don’t worry my love, it’s on me” and would have paid for the snack, which my mother couldn’t accept being a woman who finds these situations extremely difficult and who sometimes is too proud for her own good.

The café put back her scone and coffee for her to enjoy that lunch time after my Mum had walked back to the bank to report all her cards had been stolen and to the police station to report her driving licence and bus pass had also been stolen.

The Thames Valley police were also amazing and came to her house twice to check she was alright after her trauma and offered her a lot of help and support.”
