Sporting behaviour at 11 year old’s ping pong tournament.

a ping pong paddle with a ping pong ball on it resting on a ping pong table. Out of focus across the net is a boy.

“A lovely moment in 11yo’s table-tennis. He’d battled down from 10-2 down to 10-7 in the deciding set. He missed his shot and went to shake his opponent’s hand, but opponent said ‘no, that was a let’. Really sporting, and he went on to win the set 11-9.

I told him I’d noticed that afterwards and thought highly of his honesty. He smiled and said ‘well, of course — it was the right thing to do.’ Absolutely made my day.”

We hear a lot about kindness in sports and this example shared by Colin Beveridge over on Mastodon is another wonderful example.
