“My partner and I went out late to get some takeaway food. When we went to the place we usually do, on Grant Street, we found that there was a new shop open and still open at 10:30pm.
We went to investigate this as we are trying to use local small businesses even more. It turned out to be a family from Pakistan who had only set up shop the previous day! They were still setting up shop and the whole family were there.
This family’s shop are offering so many things our city doesn’t offer, and we had a good chat with them about their new business.
He described what some of the delicious looking home baking was, and we are definitely going to return to buy some of that, but we already had so many items! One of which was a new fruit that I’d never seen before that looked like a giant satsuma. I’m auDHD and a current food obsession is satsumas so I had to get one to try it. The shop owner gave it to me for free to try! Insisting it was free when I said no, no we were happy to pay and help the local owned businesses.
Before we went to the checkout there was another local telling the family that there used to be a butchers on this street three decades ago and it’s about time another was back. Their halal butchers section was still getting set up.
It was lovely to see another local be so welcoming! They told us everyone’s been really lovely and so far they’re liking the people very much. We wished them luck and told them we shall definitely return!”
