Care package from Edinburgh friend.

a highland cow resting its chin on a wooden table staring at the camera. Its golden brown hair flopping over its face and small horns poking out above its ears. Behind it is a barn and some tall trees.

“It has been such an awful week for me – but in this morning’s mail was a wee package from an Edinburgh friend, with a Highland Coo plushie (an adorable breed of Scottish cattle, thought to be the oldest cattle breed in the world), an excellent chocolate bar, a bar of ‘very lovely soap to give you a tiny taste of luxury’ (!!), and ‘knowing you as I do, I have guessed that you would love a handwritten letter, so am enclosing this too’.

It could not have come at a better time.

He is only the third person to send me anything through the mail in over ten years. (Bills and gov’t notices don’t count!)

It was (and is) LOVELY.

I know time is short and our to-do lists are long, but please – if you possibly can, check on your friends. Care packages are wonderful! But even a ‘Hi, I was thinking of you and wanted to check in – how are you?’ text can mean the world.”

Thoughtful messages from friends are a wonderful example of kindness that sometimes we don’t really ‘see’ as it’s expected. Thank you to the anonymous person who shared this and reminded us all of what a difference being cared for makes.
