B&B owners come to the rescue in snow.

A snowy road with trye tracks leading to a car which is just visible on the crest of a hill. At the side of the road are large trees also laden with snow.

“We recently had a trip to Chatsworth as part of our aunts 80th birthday present. We stayed in an amazing B&B in Over Haddon, our host Mark and Karen were so welcoming. They had snow a couple of days beforehand but it was mainly laying in the fields.

The evening we arrived we went for dinner and as were leaving the restaurant it started snowing.

We got in the car and very slowly, not even doing 20 miles an hour, as we came down the hill the car decided it didn’t want to go round the bend. Instead we went up the bank and knocked down a farmers dry stone wall which stopped us going over the top where there was about a metre drop the other side.

The car was also tilted leaning against a telegraph pole. We were fairly high off the ground and I could not get out of the car. Luckily we were all in one piece apart from my husband banging and cutting his head as he got out the car.

Dazed I was frantically trying to find the emergency number for the insurance company. Our aunt said call the B&B to see if they have any numbers. So I called and Karen answered. I told her we’d had an accident and where we were from what was showing on the Satnav, she said “we are coming out.” Bearing in mind it was snowing and we were on a country roads where conditions were getting worse.

A short while later, like the cavalry, Mark and Karen came up the hill to our rescue. They then called their neighbour, Neil, who managed to get our car off the wall using his 4×4.

The next day Mark and Karen said don’t go home, we will take you to Chatsworth and pick you up. After much deliberation we decided to stay.

I think these are wonderful people as without them who knows what our fate would have been. It helps to restore your faith that acts of kindness, do exist.”

Oh Ann, what wonderful people you met, thank you so much for sending in this story of kindness so we can all read it and be reminded of just how kind people are.

You can build that faith in humanity even further with more stories of kindness sent in by people just like you:
