“One of my elderly Mum’s neighbours drives her to do a big shop once a fortnight, which is kind enough, but in between, if she sees Mum walking to the bus stop she’ll offer her a lift instead, and often brings over ‘spare’ odds and ends of meals or cake. And when Mum had a funeral to go to recently, the neighbour took her out for coffee the day after, in case she needed cheering up. She’s a lovely person.”
