Swan rescued from M1 by National Highways traffic officers.

A Highways safety officer looks at the camera, behind him a swan is safely buckled in the back of his car.

National Highways traffic officers rescued a swan this week – a lovely act of kindness in the line of duty!

The swan was waddling about on the M1, a busy motorway, during the mid-morning traffic.

The heroes of the day were Adrian Woods and Simon Quigley, and apparently it’s not the first time this has been an issue according to Adrian:

“Unfortunately, when the roads are wet or there is a haze over the carriageway, swans think it is a body of water and land on the road. It is a bit of a shock when they hit the ground so the swan was a bit confused and it’s ego bruised. This is the fourth swan rescue I’ve had to deal with and we are trained how to deal with the situation and use the bags.”

A wonderful example of kindness to both the swan and to all the road users too. Well done to today’s kindness heroes; Adrian and Simon!
