Dartmoor’s kindness superhero; Mel from Chagford!

A stone stile going from a muddy section of the Dartmoor Way to a grassy field.

“We hiked the Dartmoor Way last Friday – 20miles on Day 1 and 10 more on Day 2. At end of Day 2 we get to Chagford walking like John Wayne. We’d left Caz’s car at Widdecombe and mine at Chagford to drive us back so both could get home to a bath and a cup of something hot and strong. It had been a bit blowy, and wet!!

But… I’d had a senior moment and left MY car keys in the other car – at Widdecombe 10miles and a 5hr walk away.

Enter the wonderful Mel from Chagford. Like a messenger from the Universe, she saw us on the roadside, rucksack, pockets, coats emptied in a desperate hunt for missing keys. And Mel from Chagford drove us – taking an hour out of her busy Saturday – to our car!

Sometimes you meet people randomly and they have something to say that you need to hear! In the 30min journey back to Widdecombe, Mel’s story hit a deep chord in me. And as silly as it felt to leave my car keys behind, the silver lining was meeting Chagford’s best Good Samaritan who gave us a lift – in life and back to the car.

We’re so thankful for her kindness and her wise words.”

Huge thanks to Kelly & Caz for sharing this lovely example of kindness with us (we hope you managed to get it to Sara Cox at Radio 2 too!)
